An opportunity has opened up within the support team at a school in Stockport. This support role as a SEN Teaching Assistant, will involve working with children with SEN in a variety of different ways. This is an ideal opportunity for a candidate who is looking to gain secondary school experience, before deciding to enrol on PGCE course. The role will begin after February half term, and will finish at the end of the academic year. A qualification in SEN is very desirable, but not necessarily essential. There is an expectancy that due to the nature of this role, the given individual will have to combat a number of different scenarios. Some of these scenarios may often lead to emotional responses from the child. It is important therefore, that the applicant is resilient in their attitude. The applicant will be approachable, and will understand the varying logistics involved in escorting children with SEN between lessons, as well as the many complexities within the classroom environment. It is vital also, that the applicant is a patient person, who understands the complexities of the following SEN types:
Key aspects of this role include:
- Supporting a full time member if the teaching staff in the classroom.
- Helping teachers effectively differentiate learning, in order to meet the specific needs of a given individual.
- Preparing adequate educational resources for those with SEN, as well as ensuring that SEN pupils are effectively catered for across the school site.
- Pay - GBP275-350 per week, based on prior experience.
Knowledge of the difficulties often faced by children with the following is desirable.
- Autism
- Behavioural issues
- Dyslexia
- Dyspraxia
- Sensory difficulties
The school is located in Stockport , which is easily accessible from Manchester city centre (less than 30 miles) There are also several public transport links in close vicinity to the school itself.
