Sen Teaching Assistant
Job description
Empower young people to achieve more than they ever thought possible.
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs? Do you have the patience, empathy and resilience to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential?
We are working with a highly regarded specialist SEN school in Bournemouth to recruit a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a September start. This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to become part of a nurturing, child-centred team that is committed to helping every pupil succeed—academically, socially and emotionally.
The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and associated learning differences. Every child has an individual learning journey, and you'll play a key role in helping them thrive.
Your Responsibilities
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a variety of additional needs.
- Build trusting, positive relationships that help pupils feel safe, valued and understood.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to deliver personalised support.
- Adapt learning activities to suit individual communication styles and learning abilities.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs and positive behaviour strategies.
- Encourage independence, confidence and life skills both inside and outside the classroom.
- Celebrate every achievement, recognising that progress looks different for every child.
We're Looking For Someone Who:
- Has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEN.
- Is patient, compassionate and committed to making a positive difference.
- Understands that behaviour is a form of communication and approaches challenges with empathy.
- Can remain calm, flexible and resilient in a fast-paced environment.
- Has previous experience working within education, care, youth work or support services (desirable but not essential).
- Is eager to learn and develop through ongoing training and professional development.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
