Position: Special Needs Teaching Assistant
Location: Hammersmith
Salary: GBP65-80 starting salary (dependant on experience)
Required for: November 2020 to July 2021 initially with permanent opportunities
Suitable for: graduates, nursery assistants and those with relevant special educational needs (SEN) support experience
The SEN teaching assistant job:
Our special school based in Hammersmith are looking for a pro—active and enthusiastic special needs teaching assistant to support children with SEN throughout the school. Applicants will need to be open and confident supporting children aged 7- 16 with special needs such as severe learning difficulties, autism and complex behavioural and medical needs.
The successful SEN teaching assistant will provide 1:1 care support through personal care, therapies, moving and handling and learning support through individualised learning plans. All children have an education health and care plan and having confidence with EHCPs or healthcare plans will be highly beneficial.
The SEN school:
Our special school is nestled between Hammersmith and Kensington with local access to a range of tube and train links across West London. Our school provides learning and social opportunities for children with special needs and specialise primarily with moderate learning difficulties and severe learning difficulties. However, all students have underlying speech, language and communication difficulties and some have autism, gross and fine motor skills difficulties.

- Ages 7 to 16 years
- Moderate learning difficulties (MLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), autism and social and emotional needs
- Mixed with girls and boys
- Small classes with a high adult to child ratio
- Established in 1983 with over 30 years providing amazing opportunities and experiences for children with special needs
- Known for their collaboration with schools across Hammersmith and Fulham

The SEN teaching assistant will be:
- Experienced supporting children and/or adults with special educational needs
- Confidence working with autism, moderate and/or severe learning difficulties
- Available full-time Mondays to Fridays 8:30 – 4:00pm during school term time
- Open and/or confident supporting with therapies, personal care, moving and handling and/or feeding
