SEN Teaching Assistant – Carmarthenshire

Start Date: 1st September latest
Contract Type: Full‑time / Part‑time / Temporary-to-permanent
Salary: £84–£95 per day (depending on experience)


Are you passionate about supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs?

Teaching Personnel are seeking dedicated, patient and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to work across a range of Secondary schools and Alternative provisions throughout Carmarthenshire. These roles involve supporting pupils with a variety of needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, Speech & Language difficulties, complex learning needs and physical disabilities.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who want to make a real difference in a child’s educational journey.


The Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support to pupils with additional learning needs.
  • Assist with personalised learning plans and differentiated activities.
  • Help pupils regulate emotions and behaviour using positive behaviour‑support strategies.
  • Work closely with SENCOs, teachers and external professionals.
  • Support with communication, sensory needs and emotional development.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and progress monitoring.

We Are Looking For:

  • Experience working with SEN pupils (school, care, youth work, childcare, support work, etc.).
  • A calm, resilient and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Flexibility and the willingness to adapt to changing needs.
  • Ability to use your initiative and work as part of a supportive team.
  • A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • Team Teach or behaviour‑support training is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
