Job description

SEN Teacher (Senior Leadership Experience) – Bury

We are seeking an experienced SEN Teacher with Senior Leadership or Middle Leadership experience to join a specialist school in Bury.
This role is ideal for a teacher who has led teams, contributed to whole‑school development or overseen SEND strategy, and is now looking for a new challenge in a high‑needs setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead high‑quality teaching and learning across your class while supporting whole‑school improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver personalised, differentiated lessons aligned with EHCP targets and specialist pathways.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring or guidance to support staff or junior teachers where required.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, assessment frameworks and behaviour policies.
  • Work closely with SLT, SENCOs and external professionals to ensure consistent provision and high standards.
  • Support with data analysis, progress tracking and strategic planning within the SEN curriculum.
  • Uphold safeguarding expectations and model best practice across the school.

Essential Requirements

  • QTS and substantial experience teaching within SEN, SEMH or specialist settings.
  • Proven experience in Senior Leadership or Middle Leadership (e.g., phase lead, SEN lead, behaviour lead).
  • Strong understanding of SEN needs, differentiation and therapeutic, trauma‑informed approaches.
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour, emotional dysregulation and complex profiles.
  • Full availability Monday–Friday.

Preferred but Not Essential

  • Experience implementing whole‑school initiatives or leading CPD.
  • Familiarity with multi‑agency approaches, communication strategies and sensory support.
  • Ability to design or refine learning pathways for pupils with diverse needs.

Vetting & Compliance

This role requires:

  • Two professional references spanning two years
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
  • Overseas police check if applicable

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
