Job description

SEN Teacher – Bury

We are seeking a passionate, adaptable and committed SEN Teacher to join a supportive specialist school in Bury.
This role involves working with pupils who require a highly personalised, structured and therapeutic approach to learning, ensuring every child feels safe, understood and able to progress.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver creative, differentiated lessons that are tightly aligned to individual EHCP outcomes and SEN profiles.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote engagement, emotional regulation and consistent routines.
  • Use continuous formative assessment to monitor progress and inform targeted support strategies.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists and SENCOs to maintain a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Implement behaviour and regulation strategies in line with whole‑school policies and trauma‑informed practices.
  • Support pupils with communication needs, sensory needs and social‑emotional development.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, safeguarding notes and progress records.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience teaching SEN, SEMH or within specialist provisions.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting children with complex needs.
  • Strong understanding of differentiated learning, behaviour support and SEN frameworks.
  • Availability Monday–Friday during school hours.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Preferred but Not Essential

  • Experience with autism, SEMH, ADHD or communication needs.
  • Knowledge of sensory integration, emotional regulation strategies or alternative communication (visuals, PECs).
  • Experience delivering therapeutic or small‑group interventions.

Vetting & Compliance

This position requires:

  • Two years of professional references
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
  • Overseas police checks if needed

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
