Teacher (SEN) - Bradford
If you aspire to help children with complex needs achieve their potential - this SEN Teacher role could be suited to you.
Due to an increase in pupil numbers, a special school in Bradford are looking to appoint a teacher in September, on a full time basis. The school caters for pupils aged 11-16 with Special Educational Needs including Autism, Moderate and Severe Learning Disabilities and Global Developmental Delay. Although secondary aged, the majority of pupils follow a Primary model of learning, with class teachers delivering lessons across the curriculum.
As a special educational needs (SEN) teacher you will be required to work with children who require an advanced programme of learning in order to reach their full educational potential. A key aspect of working in this field is identifying individual needs and being responsible for creating a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment. You will work alongside key professionals including an on-site medical team, physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists to implement bespoke learning programmes. You will have a sound understanding of working with young people with Education, Health and Care Plans.
Qualifications/Skills
Applications will be considered from Newly Qualified or Fully Qualified Teachers with both Primary and Secondary specialisms. You will be welcomed into a large staff team and will be fully supported by experienced, class based Learning Support Assistants. Experience of planning lessons to meet the needs of SEN pupils within a mainstream or specialist classroom is essential.
You may also have received training in PECS, Makaton, TEACCH, and/or Team Teach - however this is not essential. Teaching Personnel hold regular CPD events to support your transition into Special Needs Teaching - please contact us to find out more!
You will need to show:
- Commitment to working with pupils with special educational needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - you will be working as part of a large, multi-disciplinary team
- Adaptability - it is important to be able to respond to the needs of the children and change plans accordingly
- A positive, energetic and enthusiastic outlook
- Patience, understanding and empathy with pupils and parents
Responsibilities
As an SEN Teacher, you will:
- Prepare lessons and resources
- Develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils
- Use special equipment and facilities, such as audiovisual materials and computers to stimulate interest in learning
- Collaborate with the senior staff to define appropriate activities for the pupils in relation to the curriculum
- Liaise with other professionals, such as Social Workers, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists and Educational Psychologists
- Organise learning outside the classroom in activities such as community visits, school outings or sporting events
- Assist in meeting the personal care and/or medical needs of pupils
- Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupils' progress
- Effectively manage behaviour
If you are thinking about enhancing your career prospects as a Special Needs Teacher, please contact Rebecca Barham on the details provided, or make your application today.
