SEN Support Assistant needed on a Temporary Basis
A school located a mile out of the centre of Blackburn, who are working exclusively with Teaching Personnel, are currently seeking to appoint a temporary SEN support assistant. The role will be to start from January 2019, on a full time teaching assistant's contract in school, lasting until July 2019.
The role is very specific and will be the perfect opportunity for an experienced teaching assistant who is looking to work on a full time basis in a primary school. The needs of the child are also very specific and will be discussed further when the school look to interview at some point next week. The basics of the role are that you must have recent experience working in an education or care setting alongside children or adults with Autism. The child is high on the spectrum and with this there are a number of communication and social skills which are not fully developed. As the successful applicant, you will be expected to work on a 1:1 basis with this child in order to develop basic skills and language development. You will do this under the leadership of the class teacher and the SENCO in school who are keen to work collectively with the child and his parents to ensure his individual needs are met. It is not a necessity that you have recent experience in MAKATON but it would be preferable as the child in question does not have good communication skills and so he relies on basic sign and MAKATON to build relationships with staff members.
The school has recently received a GOOD Ofsted grading and the big driving force for this judgement was the support in place for the children in school who have additional needs. It was commented on in the actual report, suggesting the SENCO was exemplary in her ability to meet individual needs, specifically the children who were working well below age related levels. As part of the role, you will also be expected to complete in depth observations and assessments to ensure the SENCO and the parents of the child are kept up to speed with progress and next steps in learning. It is not essential that you have prior experience of this but it would be preferred. There will obviously be in-house training on offer in order to develop your practice, this is used to ensure all the staff are continuously up skilling in order to get the best out of the children.
If you require further details on this role, you can apply by sending over a CV to my email address listed below or contact me in office using the Primary telephone line.
The rate of pay is competitive for this role and you will be working at Level 2.
You must hold a relevant teaching assistant qualification in order to apply for this role.
You must also have recent experience working in an education or care environment.
