SEMH Teacher

About the School
This specialist provision caters for pupils aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, many of whom have EHCPs and may also present with co-occurring conditions such as Autism, ADHD or Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties. Class sizes are small (6–8 pupils) and supported by highly skilled Learning Mentors and Therapists.
Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver differentiated lessons across KS3–KS4, tailored to meet individual EHCP targets

Teach a range of subjects (or a specialism) through a trauma-informed lens, focusing on engagement, structure and emotional regulation

Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, many of whom have experienced previous school exclusion or instability
-
Model and reinforce pro-social behaviours and restorative practices
-
Manage behaviour using a non-confrontational, therapeutic approach

Participate in staff briefings, training, EHCP reviews and multi-agency meetings
Candidate Requirements
✔ QTS, QTLS or other recognised teaching qualification
✔ Experience teaching in SEMH, PRU, Alternative Provision or with challenging behaviour
✔ Skilled at differentiating for diverse learning, cognitive and emotional needs
Desirable:

Team Teach or equivalent behaviour training

Experience with restorative approaches or Nurture Group principles
-
Familiarity with Zones of Regulation, Thrive or Boxall profiles

Experience teaching core subjects or vocational/creative pathways

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
