Job description

We are seeking a talented English specialist to join a highly supportive and successful department from September 2025.

This role would suit an English teacher with QTS or QTLS who is passionate about fostering a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking. Applications are welcome from both experienced teachers and ECTs who are eager to begin their career in a school that values rigour, creativity, and support.

Main Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons across KS3 and KS4, in line with the national curriculum and departmental schemes of work
• Teach a diverse and rich curriculum that includes prose, drama, poetry, and non-fiction, ensuring a balance of canonical and contemporary texts
• Prepare pupils for GCSE English Language and English Literature, using data and assessment to track progress and inform teaching
• Differentiate effectively to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEN, EAL, and higher prior attainment
• Encourage students to become confident readers, articulate speakers, and thoughtful writers through engaging classroom experiences
• Set high expectations for behaviour, achievement, and personal development, maintaining a purposeful and inclusive classroom environment
• Contribute to the wider work of the department and school through enrichment activities, interventions, and collaborative planning
• Uphold the Teachers’ Standards, demonstrating professionalism, subject expertise, and a commitment to safeguarding

The Ideal Candidate Will:
• Hold UK QTS or QTLS and have experience teaching English in a secondary school setting
• Be confident delivering English Language and Literature at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
• Have excellent knowledge of the English curriculum, with a strong understanding of pedagogy, assessment, and differentiation
• Demonstrate outstanding classroom practice, behaviour management, and a reflective approach to improvement
• Be passionate about their subject and committed to developing pupils’ academic and cultural literacy

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
