SEMH Support Assistant

Social, Emotional Mental Health support assistant required at a Primary school in Leeds (LS17) for a full-time role working with children across the primary age range when schools re-open fully in September 2020. 

  • Do you have experience of supporting pupils with Social Emotional Mental Health needs?
  • Are you confident in working with children with ASD, ADHD, or other comorbid conditions?
  • Have you ever had experience with Team Teach?

If so then this could be the perfect role for you! 

You will be working with primary aged pupils across Key Stage One (KS1) and Key Stage Two (KS2). Your day will be varied, supporting children in the classroom and assisting with integrating them back into a school routine after the lockdown period. This is a full-time role from 8:00am - 4:00pm and will be for a 1 year contract initially with the opportunity for a permanent role.

You will be supporting pupils who are struggling with the school routine and who may also have additional needs such as; Social, Emotional Mental Health Issues, Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties and Behavioural issues. You will be required to work with pupils on a one to one basis as well as groups of children. You will be required to support these pupils both in and out of the classroom and assist them with their needs as well as their academic school work.Therefore candidates must have a Teaching assistant qualification or, an educational based degree. 

What is requited from you

  • Teaching Assistant qualification or, educational based degree
  • Experience working with young people with SEMH, autism, ADHD, or other disabilities and needs
  • Experienced working with primary aged pupils from 5 - 11
  • Able to hold student attention and focus with excellent communication skills
  • Can provide 2 references which can comment on your ability to work with children
  • Have a calm, nurturing approach with clear expectations
  • Be confident building positive relationships with pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to help them progress both socially and academically
  • Team Teach qualification (not essential but would be an advantage)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
