Reception Teacher, Islington

A lovely mainstream school in Islington (EC1) are recruiting for a Reception Teacher to join their Early Years team.

This is a one form entry federated school. The executive head teacher works across two schools. This federation works within the context of Christian belief and practice, we aim to serve the community by providing an education of the highest quality over both schools. Our vision for the federation is that every child will thrive s both schools provide a broad range of opportunities where teaching is outstanding and makes a high impact upon learning and achievement. This is the core purpose of the federation; two fantastic, successful, happy schools who are at the heart of the Islington community.

Reception Teacher

Experience teaching Reception and a sound understanding of the curriculum

  • Philosophy For Children (P4C) - in P4C children learn to raise questions and express their ideas about things that really matter to them. Weekly practice in P4C deepens children's caring, creative, collaborative and critical thinking.
  • Reciprocal Reading- an approach to group reading where children predict, clarify, question and summarise what they have read. This approach, which is child led, really deepens understanding of texts.
  • Singapore Maths- a highly successful approach to mathematics, using concrete materials and diagrams to support abstract concepts within maths.

Successful Reception Teacher:

  • The successful applicant needs to have a team player attitude
  • The teacher must be extremely driven, reliable and hard-working
  • Teacher displays a clear and thorough understanding of the curriculum
  • Secure knowledge and skills relating to strategies in working with pupils of all achievement levels.
  • An interest, motivation and passion for working with special needs children and developing skills to facilitate this
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities
