Learning Support Assistant
Are you an enthusiastic graduate with experience supporting secondary school students? Do you have previous classroom experience and have aspiration for a career in education?
This vibrant secondary school in the High Peak District is looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to work with students vulnerable to falling behind due to SEN and SEMH requirements or behavioural difficulties. The position is full time and temporary from Easter till the end of the academic year.
As a Behaviour Support Assistant you’ll work with students across the secondary school age range to raise attainment, inclusion and self-esteem. The successful candidate will work mostly with students struggling with barriers to their learning such as Special Educational Needs, Social and Emotional Mental Health requirements and behavioural difficulties. Candidates will provide support in the classroom alongside regular classroom teachers to ensure each student receives the same instructions and understands each task as well as the rest of the class, sometimes aiding teachers in planning and delivering lessons. BSA’s will also work with SEN coordinators and other members of school senior leadership, collaborating to plan 1-on-1 and small group academic and pastoral intervention.
Roles, responsibilities and highlights will include:
- Supporting secondary school students facing barriers to their education in the form of Special Educational Needs
- Working with students struggling with Social and Emotional Mental Health difficulties to raise self-esteem and promote inclusion
- Supporting students with other barriers to their learning such as English as an Additional Language requirements
- Ensuring all students understand and receive the same instructions, promoting inclusion and limiting the amount of time students are away from their peers
- Full time temporary position for 1 term after Easter (the right candidate could be offered an extension into the new academic year)
- Weekly pay of up to GBP350 a week
- Strong and supportive senior leadership team and dedicated support staff
To be eligible for this position candidates should have some experience with secondary school students in a school based capacity or other, including: Youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, tutoring, support working etc. Candidates must eb able to provide suitable employment references with no safeguarding concerns attached and must have an in date fully enhanced DBS certificate (or be eligible to apply for one).
We encourage applications from candidates local to the High Peak District (Buxton, New Mills, Glossop etc) as well as candidates able to commute from nearby Stockport and Tameside.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
