Learning Mentor
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
We are looking for a patient, proactive and resilient Learning Mentor to join an alternative provision in Dorset. You will be working between 2 sites, one based close to Wareham and one based close to Dorchester. Because of this, it is beneficial you have access to a vehicle but this is not essential and car shares can be available from Dorchester, Poole and Bournemouth.
About the provision:
The service provides support for young people and children between the ages of 12-16, with complex social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and some special educational needs (SEN). This could include a child or young person who:
- Needs support because they’re unable to be at school full time
- Is experiencing declining mental health and/or self-harm
- Requires a calm and safe place to complete their education while working towards returning to school or post-16 education or apprenticeships
You will be supporting young people with project work including outdoor activities and animal care. The students also receive support and tuition in Maths and English so if you have experience with one of these core subjects then that’s an added bonus, but this is not essential.
You will want young people to have access to an educational alternative that suits their unique needs and strengths. You will be passionate about giving young people an opportunity to flourish and grow, moving towards their own goals on a supported pathway to adulthood.
It is essential that all applicants have experience teaching young people with SEMH. Ideally applicants will have a current teaching qualification but this is not essential if you have proven experience.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
