Humanities Teacher
Job description
Humanities Teacher – Durham & Sunderland Secondary Schools September 2026 Start | Long-Term Supply | MPS/UPS £32,916 – £51,048 | Full-Time
Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Humanities Teacher for full-time, long-term supply positions across secondary schools in Durham and Sunderland, with a September 2026 start. Applications are warmly welcomed from experienced teachers, Early Career Teachers, and final year PGCE students who will have gained QTS by September.
Humanities is a broad and rewarding department to work in, and the schools Teaching Personnel works with across both areas reflect that — offering varied timetables, supportive colleagues, and the kind of environment where good teachers are genuinely valued. With positions available across Durham and Sunderland, there is flexibility on location to suit where you are based.
Your timetable will draw on your subject specialism — whether that's History, Geography, RE, or a combination — with the opportunity to contribute across the wider Humanities curriculum depending on your background and the needs of the department.
Responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering Humanities lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Contributing across History, Geography, and/or RE depending on your specialism
- Assessing student progress and providing meaningful feedback
- Maintaining high standards of classroom management and student engagement
- Participating in departmental planning and whole-school activities
- Upholding safeguarding responsibilities in every setting
To be considered you'll need:
- QTS or equivalent — ECTs and final year PGCE students completing by September 2026 are encouraged to apply
- A degree in a Humanities discipline
- Strong subject knowledge and a passion for your specialist area
- The ability to teach confidently across broader Humanities subjects is advantageous
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Teaching Personnel offers:
- MPS/UPS salary — £32,916 to £51,048 depending on experience
- Weekly pay via PAYE
- Dedicated consultant support
- Free CPD and Early Career development support
- Opportunities for permanent employment
Contract: Full-time, long-term supply | Start: September 2026 | Location: Durham & Sunderland
