Job description

Maths & Science Teacher – Durham Secondary School September 2026 Start | Long-Term Supply | MPS/UPS £32,916 – £51,048

Two strong subjects. One great opportunity.

Teaching Personnel is looking for a teacher with the ability to deliver both Maths and Science across a Durham secondary school from September 2026. This is a long-term supply position that suits a specialist in one subject with solid working knowledge of the other — or someone who is genuinely confident across both.

Schools increasingly value teachers who can cover across departments, and this role reflects that. You'll be a flexible, valued member of staff across two core subject areas, working with students at KS3 and KS4 and contributing to two established departments.

What you'll be doing each day will vary — some days weighted toward Maths, others toward Science — but the school will work with you to ensure the timetable plays to your strengths.

Responsibilities will include:

Planning and delivering lessons in Maths and/or Science across KS3 and KS4, assessing student progress, maintaining high classroom standards, adapting teaching to support students of all abilities, and contributing to departmental and whole-school activities as required.

To apply you'll need:

  • QTS or equivalent
  • A degree in Maths, a Science discipline, or a related field
  • Demonstrable experience or confidence teaching across both subjects
  • Strong subject knowledge and a student-centred approach to teaching
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service

Teaching Personnel offers:

  • MPS/UPS salary — £32,916 to £51,048 depending on experience
  • Weekly pay via PAYE
  • Dedicated consultant support
  • Free CPD and professional development
  • Opportunities for permanent employment

Contract: Long-term supply | Start: September 2026 | Location: Durham

Send your CV or call 0191 223 5071.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
