Head of Year (Non-Teaching)
Job description
Teaching Personnel are the UK’s largest education recruitment agency and we are looking to recruit a dedicated and highly organised Non-Teaching Head of Year in Newport, Isle of Wight.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting young people and making a positive impact on their educational journey. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting behavioural, attendance and pastoral systems for a designated year group, ensuring students are empowered to achieve their full potential in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment.
The Role
Working closely with the Assistant Headteacher for Pastoral, you will act as the central point of contact for students, tutors, parents and carers, providing guidance, challenge and coordination to ensure high standards of behaviour, attendance, wellbeing and achievement.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in fostering a culture of high expectations while ensuring every student receives the support they need to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate pastoral support for an allocated year group.
- Monitor and improve student attendance, punctuality and engagement.
- Support the implementation of behaviour management systems and interventions.
- Build positive and effective relationships with students, families and external agencies.
- Work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to identify and address barriers to learning.
- Manage pastoral records and contribute to safeguarding and student welfare processes.
- Promote a positive school culture that reflects high expectations and student success.
- Support students' personal development, wellbeing and resilience.
About You
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and proactive individual who can build strong relationships and effectively support young people through the challenges of secondary education.
You will ideally have:
- Experience working with children or young people in an educational, pastoral or support setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Confidence in working collaboratively with families, staff and external professionals.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and manage competing priorities effectively.
