Are you a recent graduate or looking to graduate this July? Are aspiring to get into teaching or work within education? Do you want to gain experience within primary schools before beginning your journey into teaching?

If so a larger than primary school, located in the Leigh area, is currently looking to appoint a graduate teaching assistant to provide support for class teachers across KS2. As part of the role you will be assigned to either a class or classes across KS2 where you will provide general support across the class working along side the class teacher, leading small group interventions and working on a 1:1 basis with specific pupils, in order to help raise attainment and allow all pupils to be able to progress. In addition to this the school will support you in your development, providing you with the skills that you will need before taking the next steps to becoming a Primary Teacher.

Requirements for this role:

  • Have a real passion to make a difference in pupils learning.
  • Be aspiring to develop into a Primary Teacher.
  • Hold a minimum 2:2 degree.
  • Be able to demonstrate high standards of Maths and English.
  • Some experience working with children is preferable.
  • Be a strong communicator and be able to work well as part of a team.

Whilst in placement you will;

  • Keep a journal of your day to day experience
  • Observe lessons to develop a broad knowledge of teaching styles/methods
  • Discover how different members of staff provide effective differentiation, manage behaviour and conduct non subject activities such as registration and assemblies
  • Gain experience in assessment for learning
  • Create a lesson plan
  • Deliver at least one lesson per term when confident on the schools approach to learning
  • Gain experience in learning outcomes - You will observe pupils and be able to actively identify which pupils require support to uncover their barriers to learning
  • Work with all staff to support the pastoral systems in place to aid pupil development
  • Learn the school policies and discover why and how they developed
  • Learn the curriculum in your Key Stage and identify the areas of your degree which can be applied and present this to the school
  • Support pupils through examination preparation
  • The ability to provide and deliver pupil interventions
