The SENCO at a Salford based secondary school wishes to appoint a resilient Behaviour Mentor on a full-time basis from September 2019.

Due to an influx of identified pupils requiring additional support the Head teacher and SENCO are seeking a dynamic practitioner, with previous experience working with challenging behaviour, supporting hard to reach young people and those wishing to support the teaching and learning for pupils across a range of subjects at Key stages 3 & 4.

  • Full-time Behaviour Mentor required from September 2019.
  • Previous experience working with young people who display challenging/disruptive behaviour is essential to be considered for this role.
  • Any additional SEN/SEMH experience is highly desirable due to the nature of the Behaviour Mentor role.
  • Continued access to CPD throughout the academic year.
  • Excellent location easily accessed via the M60/A580 (East Lancashire Road).
  • Earn up to £1300 a month.

The successful Behaviour Mentor should be able to work directly with identified pupils or groups of students to help overcome barriers to learning, improve behaviour and raise achievement. Liaising with parents, appropriate agencies and the wider school community to support all concerned.

Due to the complex nature of this role, you will be expected to take an objective approach to the support of young people, as the development of their teaching and learning is at the forefront of support, the responsibilities for the incoming Behaviour Mentor will include;

  • Working with young people at a teaching and/or learning capacity.
  • De-escalate, engage and support pupils who display disruptive and challenging behaviour alongside the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Work alongside SENCO to support identified pupils in accordance to school behaviour and safeguarding policies.
  • Experience of working with challenging young people and the ability to defuse and de-escalate their behaviour.
  • Take on a resilient, empathetic and pupil centred approach and the ability to work under high pressure situations.

The school is heavily over subscribed and boasts just over 1000 pupils on roll, aged 11-16 and is located in the Little Hulton region of Salford. The school can be accessed via the M60/A580 (East Lancashire Road) and there are numerous public transport links readily available from the surrounding areas; Bury, Bolton and Wigan.
