Teaching Personnel are looking for Behaviour Mentors to work with challenging pupils who require 1:1 and 2:1 support. Our schools cater for students with mixed Special Educational Needs including complex needs, Autism and Learning Difficulties.

Students with complex needs have a range of issues and combination of layered need's such as mental health, social, behavioural, physical, medical, sensory, communication and cognitive. These needs may require informed, specific support and strategies to allow children to engage effectively in the learning process and to participate actively in classroom activities and the wider community. This may be emotional support and help with reading or writing. It may be that students struggle to understand tasks and need someone to support them in working out what needs to be done and how to approach this.

We are looking for versatile and resilient individuals who can support pupils calmly and confidently. You will be required to manage challenging behaviour and work with other members of staff to try and keep young persons calm and engaged.

An ideal candidate might have or had experience in;

  • Experience working in a school or care setting
  • Experience with persons of 2-19 years of age
  • Valid DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for one)
  • Own transport or ability to use public transport
  • A passion for learning
  • The ability to inspire
  • A positive attitude
  • Experience working with people with challenging behaviour
  • Personal experience supporting persons with Special Educational Needs is invaluable
  • Sports Coaching, Carer background, Social Working or Performing Arts

The ideal candidate might be:

  • Versatile and resilient to work with challenging behaviour
  • Experience working with students who have significant communication difficulties - any experience of Makaton, MAPA or PECS is desired
  • Team Teach qualifications or other behaviour management qualifications
  • Escalation and diffusion methods
  • Experience working in challenging SEN environments with a range of abilities and SEN needs
  • Confident to work as part of a thriving multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience within Pupil Referral Units
  • Able to inspire and engage students
  • Vocational and Professional qualifications are desirable but not essential. It is about your character and abilities within the role.
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered to the update service (or willing to apply for this)

  • Timetable of Monday to Friday
  • Hours based from 08:30-15:30
  • Access to Teaching Personnel's CPD courses
  • A dedicated consultant throughout any process, including interviews, trials and daily support
  • Paid through PAYE, so no costs for working with Teaching Personnel
