Job description

Educational Health Care Assistant – SEN Schools

We are looking for caring and dedicated Educational Health Care Assistants to join our team, supporting children and young people in specialist SEN schools across primary and secondary settings. This rewarding role combines classroom support with elements of personal care, working alongside teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams to ensure pupils with complex needs can thrive both academically and personally.

This role is offered on a zero hour contract starting on a temporary basis. For the right candidates who demonstrate commitment, reliability, and a strong fit within the school environment, there may be opportunities to move into long-term or permanent contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care support, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene routines.

  • Assist with classroom learning and therapeutic activities under teacher guidance.

  • Promote pupils’ physical, emotional, and social development in line with their EHCPs.

  • Work 1:1 or in small groups with pupils who may have autism, medical needs, or physical disabilities.

  • Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in either care (healthcare, residential, or personal care) or education (teaching assistant, learning support).

  • Patient, compassionate, and professional approach.

  • Willingness to provide personal care and support manual handling (training provided).

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Flexible, proactive, and able to adapt in a dynamic school setting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
