Autism Teaching Assistant -Romford

We are looking for a conscientious teaching assistant to join a primary special school supporting a group of children who have autism and behavioural needs. This will be working full time from September 2019 for an 'Outstanding' special needs school based in Romford to support the social and educational needs of children with special educational needs; all pupils are on an individual educational health care plan (EHCP) with a tailored plan and learning aims for their needs. This is a small group of 8 KS1 children all of whom vary on the autistic spectrum from low to high functioning autism , they are a lively group of children who present with challenging behaviours such as biting , punching , kicking . We are looking for someone who is calm, patient and is able to deliver both group and 1:1 support as necessary. You will have a strong understanding and previous experience of how to support autistic children who have associated challenging behaviours.

School offer:

  • The opportunity to secure permanent contract
  • £65-£85 daily rate with no additional deductions

Autism teaching assistant job specification:

  • Have at least 1 year previous experience supporting children with Autism or any other special needs , behavioural difficulties and disabilities
  • You will be flexible and be able to adapt your approach to the needs of students
  • PECS or Makaton experience is desired
  • Able to support with toileting needs and nappy changing as required
  • Monday to Friday 8.30am-3.30pm during school term time only
  • Must be able to commit to travelling to Romford daily
