Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Supporting Children with Additional Needs

Are you a nurturing, patient, and motivated individual who is passionate about helping children with additional needs reach their full potential? At Teaching Personnel, we are seeking dedicated Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to work across primary and secondary schools in Southampton and The New Forest.
We work in partnership with a range of inclusive schools that regularly require additional support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This includes providing short-term cover for staff absences as well as fulfilling long-term and permanent recruitment needs.
As an LSA with Teaching Personnel, you will play a key role in supporting the learning, development, and emotional wellbeing of children who may have a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, communication difficulties, or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
Key Responsibilities

Support individual pupils or small groups within the classroom under the direction of the class teacher or SENCO.

Adapt learning activities and resources to meet each child’s unique needs and learning style.

Foster positive relationships and encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence, and resilience.

Support the teacher in implementing behaviour strategies and maintaining a positive learning environment.

Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and outside agencies to ensure continuity of care and support.
Requirements
-
Previous experience supporting children or young people in education, care, medical, or youth work settings.

A genuine passion for helping children with additional needs thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.

An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one

The ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow guidance from teaching staff and SEN professionals.

Availability to start immediately or at short notice.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
