A secondary special school in Rochdale is currently working in partnership with teaching personnel. The school currently has 253 pupils enrolled and caters for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) who are aged 11- 19. The head teacher is looking to appoint a youth worker for September 2017. Initially, the position will be temporary for the first term September- December 2017, however there is opportunity for permanent for the right candidate.
The role will involve working in collaboration with a range of professionals including: teachers and teaching assistants to support the development of KS3 pupils. It will also involve planning and implementing outreach activities that are designed to encourage the development of pupil’s life skills and enhance their employability. Due to the specific needs of the pupils the ideal youth worker will have experience in dealing with pupils with challenging behaviour and know how to de-escalate challenging situations.
The ideal youth worker will have:
- Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (ideally level 3)
- Preferably Team-Teach trained (can be provided)
- A considerable amount of experience working with pupils with challenging behaviour
- Experience working within a special needs setting
- Experience working in an outreach team
- An understanding of how to de-escalate challenging situations
