Year 5 Behaviour Support- Teaching Assistant role

A large Primary School have approached Teaching Personnel earlier this morning in order to source a Behaviour Support Assistant to work full time from 30th September until the end of this academic year. The role is to cover a gap in staffing and will run from 0815-1515 with half an hour's lunch. The Head teacher has given a full specification to work to as she is keen to prevent any unnecessary disruption with the child. The child does have complexed behaviour needs which require careful management and high quality planning which time will be given to complete. The SENCO in school is very involved with every child in school who has a designated support assistant and Education Plan. She ensures all the children are allocated enough support and works effectively to liaise with parents and carers to ensure the child is given the best chance in school. There are a number of children in school who fall under the SENCO's radar and so it is important that you settle quickly and work proactively to support your allocated child. The Head teacher has specified that the child is disruptive in class and will use his size to get his own way and to control social situations amongst the other children. You will therefore need to be prepared to support this child using a structure and firm but assertive approach. The child has previously lashed out at other children and has been excluded on a couple of occasions due to his behaviour.

In order to gauge the quality of the candidates, the Head teacher and SENCO will meet and observe the applying candidates working with the child. This is to ascertain suitability with the child and to see what kind of relationship can be built.

To be considered for this role, you must have the following;

Level 2, 3 or equivalent Degree

Recent experience working alongside children with challenging behaviour - in Mainstream, SEN and PRUs are accepted. You may also apply if you have prior experience working as a youth worker and in a residential setting

A DBS Child workforce signed up to the UPDATE SERVICE

A firm but assertive approach to behaviour management which can be implemented in the classroom
