Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a Tutor to support an extremely vulnerable Year 6 pupil who is a Looked After Child. We are looking for a tutor who is confident to plan and deliver core subjects to this pupil on a 1:1 basis; he is working at below age related expecations due to undiagnosed learning needs. The tutor will be required from Monday - Friday from 9.30am - 12am (with a view to increase if the placement is successful). The child is moving on the 2nd June so the location is not yet confirmed, however initially we will be implementing online teaching so this can take place from any location.

This child is extremely vulnerable and has suffered from neglect, domestic abuse, bullying, parental drug and alcohol misuse and significant family bereavement. Due to this and having a negative male role model in his life, he can present with persistent challenging behaviour and innappropriate sexualised behaviour. Therefore we are looking for someone who is extremely nurturing, patient and has an understanding of how childhood trauma may affect his current state of mind and behaviour.

The role:

  • Tutoring an extremely vulnerable pupil who requires cross-curricular academic support as well as pastoral support
  • Dealing with safeguarding concerns as appropriate
  • Possibly online tutoring with a view to moving out to face to face tutoring when lockdown restrcitions are lifted and it is safe to do so
  • Dealing with challenging behaviour and verbal aggression
  • Encouraging the student to make positive life choices and encouraging engagement in education
  • Offering a creative, nurturing approach at all times
  • Liaising with multi-disciplinary teams where required, including report writing and invovlement in PEP meetings where appropriate
  • Building professional relationships with all staff in residential homes, schools and Local Authority teams
  • Providing detailed, coherent feedback reports to be sent to the Local Authority, to monitor academic progress and emotional wellbeing of the student

The ideal candidate:

  • Fully Qualified Teacher (however we will accept applications from any unqualified teachers with SEMH experience who can plan and deliver work) with primary and/or KS3 experience
  • Experience with SEN, in particular SEMH - anxiety, challenging behaviour and disengagement
  • Any experience with Looked After Children
  • Experience within SEN schools, alternative provisions or inclusion units
  • Teachers with additional qualifications or training in Attachment Disorder, Childhood trauma, Mental Health Awareness or Counselling
  • Experience with online teaching platforms such as Bramble or Google Classrooms

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
