Trainee Learning Support Assistant
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
One of our partner-schools in the Vale of Glamorgan is looking for a full-time trainee LSA to work 1:1 with a small group of pupils with specific needs in relation to hearing impairments and mild learning difficulties. You will at times also be asked to work on a one-to-one basis with a pupil who has been identified to need more support on that day. Within the classroom as well as the small group work you will have a good ratio of support staff-to- pupils who are involved in running the schools support unit.
As a trainee the school will initially buddy you up to observe and get to know the school and its daily workings. This way you will be able to start to build relationships with pupils and staff while becoming familiar with your surroundings. Training will be provided throughout your placements to ensure you gain a good understanding of the specific needs you will be supporting.
ESSENTIAL
- Have Full Time Availability Mon-Fri (8:30-15:00)
- Have some experience working with young people aged11-16 (School experience not essential)
- Be confident supporting pupils with additional learning needs
- Passion to develop through continuous training
As the pupils you will be working with have additional learning needs, the need for consistency and matching the right experience/personality in order to positively influence their behaviour and education is key. As a trainee the school will look to support you and if successful offer a school contract after a successful probation period.
AVANTAGEOUS
- Experience working in a similar environment even if it is not a school or educational setting. Care backgrounds, Youth workers, sports coaches etc have been successful with similar roles. Any work where supporting young people with additional needs would be an advantage
The school is a large Secondary School based in the Vale of Glamorgan that has a large emphasis on supporting those with additional learning needs and has a number of specialist units to do this. The school pride themselves on the level of support they offer and the high quality of education also provided throughout the school. The school has a lot of pupils who have additional learning needs, and these bring frustrations that fuel behavioural issues and concerns regarding pupil engagement and attendance.
SUMMARY
- Full time LSA role
- Starting November 2020
- Supporting small groups of pupils aged 11-16
- Continual training provided in the role
- GBP60-GBP75 per day
- Permanent contract offered after a successful probation period to develop within school
