Teaching Assistant - Special Educational Needs - Autism

Teaching Personnel is looking for a teaching assistant to work with an autistic child, starting immediately at a Primary School in Richmond Upon Thames, for a long term role through till July.

The Role

  • Teaching Assistant for Non-Verbal and Verbal Children.
  • Early Years and Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistant.
  • Long Term Teaching Assistant role in Richmond Upon Thames.
  • Small Group intervention Work - Teaching Assistant.
  • 1:1 Teaching Assistant.
  • Additional communication training such as Makaton and PECs a bonus.

The successful Teaching Assistant will be working in a medium-sized Primary School with a large and well-resourced SEN provision.

The school caters for a wide range of Special Educational Needs, they have several children on the autistic spectrum and now need an additional teaching assistant in this area to work with children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 from this month.

Applicants for this teaching assistant role should be exceptional communicators and strong team-players, able to fit in well with the supportive staff-team at the school. We are looking for a pro-active and enthusiastic teaching assistant who can bring to the post lots of ideas and a passion for working with SEN children. Previous experience working with autism is essential for this role, ideally within Primary education, with children aged 4-7.

As an experienced Teaching Assistant, you should have experience delivering specialist interventions with autistic children and/or children with speech & language difficulties.

Previous training in alternative communication techniques such as PECS or Makaton would be advantageous to the role but not essential. The school offers on-going training and development, so it's an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant to develop their skills further.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
