Teaching Assistant - Rochdale

Job description

Full- time position for an experienced teaching assistant commencing as soon as possible. Initially, the position is temporary and will involve working 5 days per week until the end of the academic year; however there could be the opportunity for permanent for the right teaching assistant.

A special school situated close to the centre of Rochdale is looking to appoint an experienced teaching assistant who has extensive experience working with pupils with SEN. The school currently has 253 pupils on roll and caters for pupils with special needs and disabilities (SEND) who are aged 11-19. The school was recently graded as 'good' by OFSTED in its most recent 2016 inspection.

This role will involve working in close collaboration with a classroom teacher to support and encourage the development of pupils with SEN. Due to the specific needs of the pupils the ideal teaching assistant will have an in-depth understanding of how to cater for pupils with SEN. Ideally the teaching assistant will also have experience working within a special needs setting and know how to plan and deliver targeted interventions.

An ideal teaching assistant will have:

  • Experience of working within a school or college environment with pupils with SEN
  • Experience of working in close collaboration with classroom teachers and school support staff
  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the SEND code of practice
  • An understanding of the importance of working in line with safeguarding procedures
  • A commitment to assuring the optimal educational development of all pupils
  • Team- Teach training (can be provided through Teaching Personnel)
