Teaching Assistant

We are seeking to recruit a motivated and energetic Teaching Assistant to join us ASAP. The ideal candidate will have a flexible approach to work and be adaptable to varying settings. Experience would be an advantage but not essential.

We encourage applications who may wish to train to become a teacher at a later stage.

To work under the overall direction of the class teacher, to provide routine support to the teacher in the care of pupils and management of the classroom, but specifically addressing the needs of those pupils who require particular help to overcome barriers to learning. May assist in the delivery of work in the classroom or outside the main teaching area.

Support Learning:

• Use routine supervision and care skills to support pupils, including those who have physical, emotional or educational needs, ensuring their safety
• Support pupils by assisting in day to day learning through in-class support and small group work
• Undertake student recording as directed
• Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required
• Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher
• Work as part of a team to ensure that the well being, behaviour and personal development of pupils enhances their learning opportunities and life skills

Abilities and Skills

Essential:

• Possess good interpersonal skills to achieve positive relationships with children, parents, staff and visitors
• Ability to be open with children and have sympathy for what concerns them. Ability to relate in a friendly but firm way with a wide range of personalities
• Be able to communicate clearly and effectively
• Have good organisational skills

Desirable:

• Possess ability to analyse tasks and how they may be best achieved
• Possess motivational skills
• Have a confident attitude towards First Aid
• Ability to deal with children with challenging behaviour
