English as an Additional Language Teaching Assistant?
Do you have a passion for helping vulnerable young people to reach their potential, and experience supporting students with English as an Additional Language requirements?
This modern, Tameside based secondary school with academy status needs applicants to fill the position of Teaching Assistant with an emphasis on supporting children with English as an Additional Language needs. This is a full-time position set to start the week after Easter 2021. Although the role will start out as temporary until July 2021, there is the prospect and opportunity to make this a permanent position at the beginning of the new academic year.
As a Teaching Assistant with emphasis on EAL, you’ll work in the classroom alongside the regular teachers, SEN coordinators and school senior leaders to support children who find themselves falling behind their peers by offering bilingual and translation support. As well as in class support, the successful candidate will work to establish a good working relationship with EAL students alongside acting as a role model and promoting their inclusion and acceptance with other students. EAL teaching assistants will also provide programmes of work to be completed outside of the classroom, all of which contribute to raising vulnerable young peoples academic achievements, attainment and self-esteem.
We encourage applications from candidates who meet the following requirements:
- Experience supporting students/ young people with English as an Additional Language requirements who may be bilingual beginners
- Experience supporting vulnerable young people in other Special Educational Needs capacities
- Experience as a teaching assistant working alongside teachers in classroom scenarios
- Ability to translate effectively to English effectively for EAL students
The highlights of this rewarding opportunity include:
- Wages between GBP300-350/ week
- Full time temporary position commencing after Easter 2021 with the opportunity to become permanent in the next academic year

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
