Required for September 2019, a dynamic teacher of mathematics to join a thriving department.
A Secondary school in Berkshire would like to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative teacher of mathematics to join a strong team of subject specialists. Maths has always been a particularly successful subject at the school. When Ofsted visited in 2018, the maths department was singled out for special praise, their report stating 'teaching in mathematics is particularly strong. The progress made by pupils was significantly above the national average.'
The successful candidate would be expected to teach maths across the complete age and ability range. Maths 'A' Level is one of the most popular post-16 options at the school, and many also choose to do Further Maths.
The School is a popular 13-18 comprehensive school with strong links to the community and beyond. Teaching at the School will provide diverse opportunities for working with students of all abilities, excellent opportunities for professional development, as well as becoming involved in a huge range of curriculum enrichment. The school has a very positive working environment in a distinctly inclusive way, with an excellent academic record, enthusiastic students and committed colleagues.
About the Maths Department:
The school are seeking an enthusiastic Mathematician who has the ability to inspire students of all abilities and has a willingness to work as part of a team, to join a experienced and successful department. The Mathematics Department consists of eight members of staff. The school are a dedicated and supportive team committed to continually raising standards.
In September 2017, the department moved to a newly refurbished block consisting of six classrooms each equipped with a SMARTboard. The Maths Office is a central and functional venue where many ideas are discussed and resources are shared. There is also a dedicated room for sixth form students to study. The subject is taught to all students of all abilities, from those who experience particular difficulties to those who wish to study Mathematics at university. Mathematics at GCSE At GCSE we follow the EDEXCEL linear course. The school start the GCSE course with the students when they arrive in Year 9.
The schools results at GCSE are typically strong and above National average. In 2018, 80% of the departments students achieved grades 9-4 and 25% gained grades 7-9. The results show the department add value with the majority of students achieving and exceeding expected levels of progress. In 2018, Ofsted stated that "In mathematics, pupils' progress was significantly above the national average." Mathematics in the Sixth Form Mathematics is always a popular choice in the Sixth Form. There are currently over 80 boys and girls studying Mathematics at A/S and A2 with 20 of these students also studying Further Mathematics.
The Department regularly have students who apply to Oxford and Cambridge and other top universities to read Mathematics. The department follow the EDEXCEL syllabus for Mathematics and Further Mathematics. As with GCSE, our results at A2 are typically strong. Last year 84.4% of students achieved A* - C, with 46.7% of grades being awarded at A or A*. Again here value added was good. The departments ALPs score was 3. They also offer a one-year GCSE course to Sixth Formers who wish to improve their grades.
