Teacher of History
A well qualified and enthusiastic full or part time teacher of History is required for January 2019 to join a successful and dedicated department at a thriving secondary school . The History department is committed to providing high quality teaching and learning for all students. This is therefore an ideal opportunity for an NQT or an experienced teacher wishing to develop further in a friendly and positive environment.
About the School
This particular school is located in Mid Bedfordshire with a pleasant location and good transport links. Placed in the heart of a rural environment with strong urban links. The school is located one mile from junction 12 of the M1. Currently there are currently approximately 1200 students in the school, including approx. 270 in the sixth-form. Students join the school in year 9 after attending one of three main feeder middle schools. Students of all abilities make good progress and gain excellent results.
About the Department
History is a popular & successful subject at the school. GCSE results are of a high standard and numbers at A level are growing. History students perform well above the national average at both GCSE and A level. History is a popular option at GCSE, with students choosing to study the subject now in excess of 120. With the advent of the English Baccalaureate we hope that history will continue to be a very popular subject. There are currently six year 11 groups and six year 10 groups.
All students in year 9 receive three one-hour History lessons over our two-week timetable cycle. Currently the KS3 course is based on two main periods: The Nineteenth Century and The Twentieth Century World. These topics are delivered using a variety of teaching and learning strategies. There is also scope for teachers to pursue particular areas of interest within this broad framework.
About the Candidate
- Be educated to degree or equivalent level in relevant subject
- Hold UK QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification
- Have the ability to teach History at all levels
- Be familiar with Key Stage 3 / GCSE History
- Have very good oral and written communication skills
