Job description

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting dedicated, resilient, and compassionate SEN and SEMH Support Staff to work within specialist provisions and schools across either Wigan or Bolton. These roles are ideal for individuals passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.

This is for a full time only role – Must be available Monday – Friday between 08:30 – 16:00

We are seeking candidates for a variety of positions including:

  • SEN Teaching Assistants (TA)
  • Learning Support Assistants (LSA)
  • Behaviour Support Assistants
  • SEMH Support Staff

Roles are available in specialist SEN schools, SEMH provisions, alternative provisions, and mainstream schools with SEN units.

The Role

As an SEN/SEMH Support Assistant, you may support pupils with:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Learning difficulties and additional support needs

Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support
  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Assisting pupils with classroom engagement and learning activities
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Promoting a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment

Behaviour-focused roles may involve:

  • Supporting pupils who display challenging behaviours or dysregulation
  • Using de-escalation and behaviour management strategies
  • Encouraging emotional resilience and positive social interactions
  • Acting as a positive role model and mentor for vulnerable young people

What We Are Looking For

We welcome applicants with experience in:

  • Education or schools
  • SEN or SEMH settings
  • Youth work or mentoring
  • Care or support work
  • Psychology or Criminology graduates
  • Sports coaching or pastoral support

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Patience, resilience, and empathy
  • Strong communication skills
  • Confidence working with children and young people
  • A proactive and adaptable attitude
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
