SEN Support Assistant
Job description
Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for SEN Teaching Assistants to work full time across SEN, SEMH, and PRU settings in Wigan and Bolton.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with special educational needs, complex learning difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them to access education in a safe and supportive environment.
Role Responsibilities:
- Support pupils with a range of special educational needs (SEN) including ASD, SEMH, ADHD, and learning difficulties
- Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to deliver individualised support based on EHCP targets
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to promote engagement, learning, and emotional development
- Use behaviour management and de-escalation techniques to support pupils with challenging behaviour
- Support students with emotional regulation, communication, and social skills development
- Assist with personal care and daily routines where required, ensuring dignity and respect
- Help create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
- Contribute to progress tracking and safeguarding procedures
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN or SEMH needs
- Confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and complex needs
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
- Team Teach or similar behaviour training is desirable but not essential
- Passionate about supporting vulnerable learners

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
