Sports Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you a sports graduate or sports coach and have an interest working with young people?

Do you have what it takes to work with challenging behaviour and are based in Richmond, Twickenham or Isleworth?

This is an engaging role in Richmond for someone looking to develop their skills and knowledge in teaching sports and supporting young people. You will work with young people from challenging backgrounds with additional learning needs combined with the opportunity for sports coaching.

Role 

• Good behaviour management skills and the ability to engage hard to reach young people
• Sports all rounder - able to coach sports during school break
• Confident mentoring young people 121 and in small groups
• Confident and open to supporting young people with autism or ADHD alongside challenging behaviours
• There are 8-10 pupils in a class with a dedicated staff team so team work is essential
• Secondary age or primary age experience is a must
• Monday to Friday (8:30 - 16:00)
• June 2020 start

The following backgrounds and experience are also desirable.

• Youth, community or support work experience 
• Sports Coach experience
• Working knowledge of meeting the emotional, social and mental health needs of young people
• Understanding or openness to support additional needs such as autism or ADHD
• Desire to take a supporting role in alternative education setting

The school in Richmond provides vulnerable secondary aged access to learning and emotional support. With a primary department set to open September 2020 being flexible to working across KS2 to KS4 is essential.

You will work closely with your colleagues in class and across the school to create action and learning plans for students. You will take an active role in implementing, recording and accessing a programme that positively encourages learners to overcome barriers, improve their skills and ultimately gain recognised qualifications.

You will need strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate with young people, their families, carers and a multidisciplinary team of teaching staff. You will be organised, patient and confident, with a sound understanding of the key issues currently affecting young people.
