Speech, Language and Communication Needs -Leicester LE5

Teaching Personnel are currently looking for a teaching assistant with SLCN experience, to work in a Mainstream Primary School located in Leicester (Le5). You will be required to work under the direction of the teacher developing the teaching and learning of children, which will include specific activities on a regular basis. The role will be term time only monday - friday 8:30 - 3:30

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To work with the SENDCo to assess the needs of SLCN students
  • To provide 1:1 and small group intervention for SLCN students as required
  • To pay particular attention to the development of the students' literacy and numeracy skills
  • To encourage student participation in activities led by the teacher and interaction with others
  • To establish good relationships with students, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
  • To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • To assist with the supervision of students out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtimes
  • To accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips and out of school activities as required

Ideally you will have:

  • 2 years experience of working within a classroom with SEN students is desirable
  • Understanding of practices and procedures within education relating to welfare, safety and education of children
  • Team teach is desirable
  • Ability to create and maintain good relationships with children and young adults
  • Creative & inspiring attitude
  • The desire and ability to work on an individual and team basis
