Speech and Language Specialist

Location: Garston, L19

Contract: Full Time, temporary

Start Date: November 2025

Pay Rate: £13.75 to £14.50 per hour (depending on experience)

Job Description:

We are seeking a Speech and Language Specialist to join the school as an SEN Teaching Assistant, supporting pupils with speech and language challenges across EYFS and KS1.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver targeted speech and language interventions under the guidance of the SENCO and external therapists
  • Support pupils with communication difficulties in class and during small group sessions
  • Work closely with teachers and parents to monitor progress and adapt strategies
  • Use visual aids, Makaton, PECs, or other communication tools (training can be provided)
  • Promote inclusive learning and positive behaviour

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience supporting children with speech and language needs in a primary school setting
  • Knowledge of communication strategies such as Makaton, PECs, or SALT programmes
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent (desirable)
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
  • Background in speech and language therapy, psychology, or SEN support is highly valued
