Role: Makaton Specialist Teaching Assistant

Location: Kirkby, L32

Start Date: November 2025

Contract: Temporary

Hours: Full Time

Pay Rate: £13.75 to £14.50 per hour (depending on experience)

Are you passionate about supporting children with communication needs? Do you have experience using Makaton and working with non-verbal children? We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in Kirkby.

Kirkby is well-connected by public transport, making commuting straightforward:

  • Kirkby Train Station is served by Merseyrail, offering direct links to Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria in around 30–40 minutes.
  • Multiple bus routes including the 20, 21, 97, and 133 serve the area, with stops just minutes from local schools.
  • Easy access via the M57 and A580, with parking available near schools and stations.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience using Makaton in an educational or care setting.
  • Experience working with non-verbal children, ideally within a school or SEN environment.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children with additional needs.
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience.

About the Role:

  • Support pupils with communication difficulties, particularly those who are non-verbal.
  • Use Makaton to facilitate learning, interaction, and emotional expression.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver tailored support plans.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes independence and confidence.
