Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant

Start Date: October 2025
Schedule: Full-time
Contract Type: Temporary (with potential for permanent)
Location: Norris Green, Liverpool

Pay Rate: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour (depending on experience)

A warm and inclusive primary school in the heart of Norris Green, Liverpool is seeking a compassionate, proactive, and experienced Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team this October. This full-time role is initially offered on a temporary basis, with a strong possibility of becoming permanent for the right candidate.

You will be working 1:1 with a pupil with Autism, providing tailored support to help them thrive both academically and emotionally. The school is committed to fostering a respectful and nurturing learning environment, with a strong emphasis on inclusive education and holistic pupil development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualised support to a pupil with Autism, helping them access the curriculum and develop key skills.
  • Implement strategies aligned with the pupil’s EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) and work closely with SENCO and teaching staff.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to suit the pupil’s needs and learning style.
  • Promote emotional regulation and social development through consistent, empathetic support.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure the pupil’s progress and wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to regular reviews of the pupil’s support plan.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Proven experience supporting children with Autism (ASC) in a school or similar setting.
  • A strong understanding of SEND strategies and inclusive practices.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour and emotional needs.
  • Experience working with EHCPs and implementing targeted interventions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to work as part of a supportive team.
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent (desirable but not essential).
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
