Job description

A well-regarded mainstream secondary school in Bournemouth is seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team from September 2025. This is a full-time role during term time, offering a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of young people.

Working closely with teaching staff, the Senior Teaching Assistant will play a vital role in supporting students’ academic and personal development, while also contributing to the wider school community through leadership and mentoring responsibilities.

The Role:

  • Supporting students with a range of abilities, including those with additional learning needs or EHCPs.

  • Leading small group interventions and assisting with in-class support across key stages.

  • Providing guidance and support to less experienced TAs and helping to coordinate their day-to-day duties.

  • Assisting with planning and delivering tailored support programmes, under the direction of the SENCO or classroom teachers.

  • Contributing to the monitoring and recording of student progress.

  • Playing a key role in creating an inclusive, engaging, and safe learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant in a secondary school setting (essential).

  • A proven track record of working with students with additional needs.

  • The confidence and ability to lead interventions and mentor other support staff.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A proactive, flexible, and professional approach to supporting students and staff.

  • A relevant Level 3 qualification (desirable but not essential depending on experience).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
