SEND Teaching Assistants & Learning Support Assistants
Job description
SEND Teaching Assistants & Learning Support Assistants | Hastings
Interested in supporting young people in SEND — and developing the skills to do it well?
I’m looking to hear from Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants and people with relevant transferable experience around Hastings who would like to explore working in specialist education.
I’m particularly keen to connect with people who are open to developing their practice through Thrive Approach: Introductory Skills & Strategies, a CPD course offered through Teaching Personnel.
Whether you already work in SEND or are considering moving into the sector, this could be a useful next step.
What could SEND support work involve?
Depending on the setting and pupils, the work can include:
-
Supporting learning within the classroom
-
Providing individual and small-group support
-
Helping pupils regulate their emotions and re-engage with learning
-
Supporting communication, confidence and independence
-
Building trusting relationships and maintaining consistent boundaries
-
Working alongside teachers and the wider school team
Previous SEND experience can be valuable, but relevant skills can also come from mainstream education, care, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring and tutoring.
Patience, consistency and a willingness to understand the young person in front of you are important foundations.
Develop your practice with Thrive
Through Teaching Personnel, educators can access Thrive Approach: Introductory Skills & Strategies.
The course introduces practical, relationship-based approaches to supporting pupils’ emotional and developmental needs, including those with SEND.
It explores how understanding the reasons behind behaviour can help educators respond more effectively, support engagement and contribute to a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment.
Taking part isn’t compulsory, but I’m particularly interested in hearing from applicants who would be willing to complete it.
A specialist school I’m working to build links with in Hastings particularly values this training. Completing it could strengthen your suitability for future opportunities there, while also helping you prepare for work across other SEND settings.
Finding the right fit
Before moving into recruitment, I worked within SEND education myself, so I understand how much the right environment matters.
We’ll talk about your experience, availability and the young people you feel most confident supporting. If you’re new to SEND, we can explore how your existing skills could transfer and where further training could help.
I’m welcoming expressions of interest for future opportunities, with any placement dependent on school requirements, suitability and safeguarding clearance.
Pay & practical information
Teaching Assistant and LSA opportunities are paid from £92.60 per day.
You’ll need an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service. If you don’t currently hold one, you’ll need to apply through us and join the Update Service. I’ll support you through the process, with the associated cost covered by the applicant.
We’ll also require your full employment and education history and references covering 24 months of employment in total where possible, prioritising recent and relevant employment.
Interested?
Apply and tell me about your experience, availability and interest in SEND work around Hastings.
If you’d also be interested in completing the Thrive introductory course, let me know — we can discuss the training and how it could support your next step.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
