Job description

SEND Teaching Assistants & Learning Support Assistants | East Sussex

Looking to build a career in SEND? There are opportunities across East Sussex for people who can bring patience, consistency and a genuine ability to connect with young people.

I’m currently recruiting Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, 1:1 staff and Behaviour & Engagement Mentors for specialist schools across East Sussex.

I work with settings around Hastings, Battle, Eastbourne, Hailsham, Seaford, Newhaven, Lewes and surrounding areas, supporting children and young people across both primary and secondary education.

Some vacancies are ideal for experienced SEND professionals.

Others could provide an opportunity to move into specialist education using skills you’ve developed somewhere else.

What could the work involve?

Depending on the setting, you could be:

  • Supporting pupils within lessons
  • Working individually with a young person
  • Helping pupils regulate and re-engage with learning
  • Delivering small-group interventions
  • Supporting communication and independence
  • Providing behaviour and engagement support
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals

It’s varied work, and the same approach won’t work for every pupil.

Being able to build relationships, remain calm, maintain appropriate boundaries and adapt when something isn’t working can be just as important as what’s written on your CV.

Do I need SEND experience?

Not necessarily.

Some vacancies do require previous specialist experience, but others can suit people coming from mainstream schools, care, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, tutoring or other roles supporting young people.

Having worked in SEND myself before moving into recruitment, I know how valuable those transferable skills can be.

I also know different specialist settings suit different people.

That’s why we’ll talk properly about your experience and what you’re looking for before deciding which schools make sense for you.

Pay & practical information

Teaching Assistant and LSA opportunities are paid from £92.60 per day, with flexible, full-time and long-term positions available throughout the 2026/27 academic year.

You’ll also have access to CPD and professional development.

An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service is required. If you don’t currently hold one, you’ll need to apply through us and join the Update Service, with the associated cost covered by the applicant.

We’ll also require your full employment and education history and references covering 24 months of employment in total where possible.

Interested?

Whether you already work in SEND or you’re looking for an opportunity to get started, I’d be happy to hear about your experience and what you’re looking for next.

Apply and let’s see which East Sussex opportunities could suit you.
