SEN Teaching Assistant

Experienced SEN Support Assistant Required for Specialist School in Kirklees

• Experience working with pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
• Additional training in PECS, Team Teach and/or Moving and Handing desirable
• Excellent communication skills

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a Specialist SEN School in Kirklees, looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant, to start as soon as possible with the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff

The school caters for pupils aged 2-19 with a range of SEN (including Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties and Speech and Language Delay). You will be required to work across the school, supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs. Your role will be to support pupils requiring additional support with communication, including those pupils with a mechanical system of communication and PECS. 

You will have strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate with families, carers and a multidisciplinary team of teaching staff, social workers, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists. You will be organised, patient and confident, with a sound understanding of meeting the social, emotional and mental health needs of young people with Special Educational Needs.

Experience or training in the following is also desirable:

• Picture Exchange Communication (PECS)
• Makaton or BSL (to any level)
• Autism Awareness/ASC Training
• Team Teach
• Moving and Handling

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
