Teaching assistant needed to support pupils with Special Education Needs for a Cardiff Secondary School.
Position: Long Term /Full time (Full academic year/Mon-Fri)
Pay Rates: GBP60 - GBP70 per day dependant on experience
The school have requested the need for a new member of staff to work within one of their alternative education provisions where you will be responsible for supporting and delivering education to a small group of pupils that find it difficult to integrate within the mainstream classes. The classes you will be supporting with will include things like mindfulness, anger management, mental health awareness & social anxiety. You will be working with individuals that may have various types of needs such as Autism, ADHD, EBD & SEMH these needs will all need varying levels of support so the successful candidate needs to be adaptable and show a proactive attitude in varying situations.
*No Direct Experience with SEN is necessary, however The school have requested someone with a positive attitude, the ability to use their own initiative and also the successful Teaching Assistant must be able to work with pupils that can find social situations daunting & challenging*
The School and Position
- Role starting September 2020
- The possibility of a school contract being offered at the end of the year of before dependant on performance
- Special education needs department working with pupils that have various Special Educational Needs such as Autism, Asperger’s, ADHD as well as additional Learning Needs
- Special education needs teaching assistant working with up to 30% of the schools population including group and 1:1 support
- School works with children from 11-19 years of age
- Large school with approximately 1200 pupils
The successful teaching assistant and the role:
- Educated to Degree level is preferred but not essential
- Use of your own Car is desirable/ Confident using public transport
- Previous experience working with Secondary age pupils is required
- Be confident and have the ability to build report with pupils and act as a support function
- Work closely with Additional needs coordinator and SEN team
- Show a passion for education and the capabilities to work in challenging situations
