SEN Teaching Assistant

Date posted : 01/11/20
£70 - 80 per day

Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

A school in Romford is seeking an experienced SEN TA/Support Worker to work with an autistic child on a 1-2-1 basis. If you are experienced in supporting SEN children in an educational or care-based setting then read on to find out more details, as this could be the role for you!

The school in question have managed to secure additional funding to support this child’s learning as they return to school after the lockdown. As this child is entering Year 3, they have been out of school since March so the school are anticipating that it will initially be very challenging to reintegrate the child into school life, and therefore need a dedicated 1-2-1 SEN Teaching Assistant to help manage this return and make sure the child is comfortable in school.

The school received a ‘Good’ in their last Ofsted inspection 4 years ago, and pride themselves on being an inclusive environment for vulnerable and SEN children. The school is easily accessible by car or public transport.

The school have set out the following requirements for this position:

  • Experience supporting Autistic children.
  • Experience of 1-2-1 SEND support.
  • Confident in dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • Team Teach/MAPPA/RPI trained.

The child in question exhibits challenging behaviour at times and therefore the school need someone experienced and trustworthy enough to be able to effectively deal with this in a safe and calm way. The child can often become agitated and restless, so the Head needs someone who can take the child from class when necessary and calm them down on a 1-2-1 basis. For this reason, experience of 1-2-1 SEND support in any capacity such as a care home or specialist provision would be highly thought of by school as this would tend to involve a similar skill set, despite it being in a mainstream primary setting. However, the school are also keen to stress that they want the child to maximise time in whole class activity, so when possible would prefer the child to stay in class and engage with their peers.

If you match the criteria set out by the school and are seeking support work for next academic year, then please hit ‘apply’ below. Your CV will first be assessed by us at Teaching Personnel before managing the application process for a select number of candidates, and arranging online interviews with the school once registration and vetting is complete.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
