Teaching Assistant, Hatfield School

Teaching Personnel are currently working with a highly regarded SEN school based in Hatfield, which are looking for a learning support assistant to support pupils with Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties and Speech and Language delays.

The role is full time, starting as soon as possible and will continue until the end of the academic year. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, patient teaching assistant who can support in an all through school. This medium size school has recently received a 'Good' Ofsted grade and are looking to continue to improve this standard during the next school year. The pupil's who are apart of this school mostly having high functioning Autism and need support helping the young people engage in lessons. Additionally, activities including swimming, gym sessions, employment and life skill sessions also require a positive impact.

To succeed in this role you will need the following:

  • A minimum of 1 years experience in Autism and/or Learning Disability
  • Be a strong team player with great communication skills
  • To be available full time
  • Ability to tailor your approach
  • Driven, motivated and positive personality

As an SEN teaching assistant you will be expected to do the following:

  • Ensure pupils are able to use equipment and materials provided
  • Motivating and encouraging the pupil as required by providing levels of individual attention and reassurance
  • Assisting in speech and language, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting/presentation
  • Using on praise, commentary and assistance to encourage the pupils to concentrate and stay on task
  • Liaise with class teacher, SENCO and other professionals about education plans, contributing to the planning and delivery as appropriate.
  • Providing additional nurture to individuals when requested by the class teacher or SENCO
  • Consistently and effectively implementing agreed behaviour management strategies
  • Helping to make appropriate resources to support the pupils
