SEN & SEMH Teaching Assistants – Trafford

Location: Trafford, Greater Manchester
Contract: Full-time / Long-term

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting confident, proactive and resilient Teaching Assistants to work across a number of SEN and SEMH provisions in Trafford. Our schools support pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, moderate to severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD), sensory processing needs, communication difficulties, attachment needs, trauma-related behaviours, and social, emotional and mental health challenges. These pupils require patient, consistent, and compassionate support from staff who can help them feel safe, understood, and motivated to learn.


About the Role

You will play a key part in helping pupils access learning, regulate their emotions, develop social skills, and build confidence. Whether working 1:1 or within small groups, you’ll be part of a supportive team committed to making a meaningful difference every day.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored 1:1 or small-group support for pupils with a range of SEN and SEMH needs.
  • Assist the class teacher with adapting learning materials to suit individual capabilities.
  • Use positive behaviour management strategies to support pupils in regulating emotions and managing challenging behaviour.
  • Encourage communication, independence and engagement through modelling, encouragement and structured routines.
  • Support children during sensory breaks, emotional regulation sessions and therapeutic activities.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils through consistency, patience and positive reinforcement.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and ensure safeguarding procedures are always followed.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with SEN and SEMH needs
  • Ability to use initiative, remain calm under pressure, and respond proactively to ever-changing situations.
  • Confident in supporting children with behavioural needs, emotional regulation or communication challenges.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A resilient, compassionate and positive attitude.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
