SEND Secondary Inclusion Teaching Assistant

We are recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEND Secondary Inclusion Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive secondary school in Rochdale, working with pupils aged 11–16. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about helping young people with additional needs to thrive both academically and socially within a mainstream setting.

The school supports pupils with a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), moderate learning difficulties and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils require consistent in-class support, clear routines and encouragement to build confidence, independence and engagement in learning.

You will work closely with the school’s SENCO, Inclusion Team, classroom teachers and pastoral staff, supporting pupils across a range of subjects and helping to ensure all learners can access the curriculum in a safe and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-class support for pupils with SEND across KS3 and KS4
  • Support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis as required
  • Adapt and scaffold learning tasks to help pupils access the curriculum
  • Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and classroom participation
  • Support emotional regulation and promote positive relationships with peers
  • Work closely with teachers to implement EHCP targets and support plans
  • Assist with interventions and targeted support sessions when needed
  • Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes and unstructured periods
  • Help maintain a calm, inclusive and supportive learning environment

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (school-based or transferable experience welcomed)
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Confidence supporting pupils with a range of needs and learning barriers
  • A genuine commitment to inclusion and pupil wellbeing
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
  • Right to work in the UK

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
