SEN Primary Learning Support Assistant

We are recruiting a caring and dedicated SEN Primary Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school setting in Tameside, working with pupils aged 4–11. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about helping children with additional needs to access learning, build confidence and achieve positive outcomes.

The school supports pupils with a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), moderate learning difficulties and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Pupils benefit from clear routines, consistent support and a calm, nurturing approach throughout the school day.

You will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs and experienced support staff, providing tailored support to pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis, both inside and outside of the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum through adapted learning activities
  • Assist with emotional regulation and promote positive behaviour
  • Help pupils develop confidence, independence and social skills
  • Work closely with teachers and the SEN team to follow support plans and EHCP targets
  • Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes and unstructured periods
  • Maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people (school-based or transferable experience welcomed)
  • A calm, patient and supportive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for SEND and inclusion
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
  • Right to work in the UK

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
